On Friday 24 May 2024, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Giannis Kefalogiannis visited the 2/39 Evzone Regiment in Mesolonghi, accompanied by the Commanding General of the Hellenic Army Support Command, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Bolomitis, and the Commanding General of the IV Infantry Division “Peloponnisos” (Training Centre Command), Major General Apostolos Tsoulouis.
The Deputy Minister was welcomed at 2/39 Evzone Regiment by its Commander, Colonel (INF) Panteleimon Bertsias and was briefed on the structure, organisation, mission, and current activities of the Regiment, made an address, and discussed with the soldiers and personnel of the Regiment.
Among others, the Deputy Minister of National Defence stated the following:
“Dear personnel, dear soldiers of the 2/39 Evzone Regiment, it is a great honour and pleasure for me to be here among you today, in the Sacred City of Mesolonghi. I am deeply moved, since the 2/39 Evzone Regiment has written glorious pages in the history of our Nation.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your dedication and the work you do every day, which comes from the bottom of your hearts and derives for your love towards the country. Through your multi-faceted work you remain beside Greek society and you must know that this work is acknowledged by all Greeks and does not go unnoticed. I feel proud of the quality, integrity, and professionalism of all of you, both personnel and soldiers.
I want to assure the personnel, that the Ministry, and consequently the Government, are trying to find ways to improve your income and living conditions. It is in this framework that the ongoing housing project throughout the country is implemented. A project that will cover a very big part of the existing housing needs of the personnel, consequently increasing their income.
Our country constantly faces challenges in a rapidly changing world. The geopolitical instability, the asymmetric threats, and new types of warfare require our constant readiness and adaptability. For this reason, the State and the Government invest continuously in the training, equipment, and improvement of your living conditions.
In this framework, we are promoting modernisation projects for our Armed Forces and we ensure the best possible support of your needs.
I would like to address the enlisted soldiers, and make mention of the provision of the certified skill training that they acquire through their “Opportunity – Service”. A radical project regarding how the Government invests in our enlisted personnel.
I would like to congratulate from the bottom of my heart, all personnel of 2/39 Evzon Regiment for their excellent work. I assure you that the Political and Military leadership will always be by your side, supporting your endeavours and acknowledging your work.
